Chargers Season Ends with Setback at Home

WEST HAVEN, CT – The University of New Haven Chargers hosted the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Sunday, holding the program's annual senior day celebration prior to game one. The Ravens won both games of the doubleheader at New Haven Softball Field, sending the Chargers into the summer.

GAME ONE:
Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area)n and Emily Ricci (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) recorded back-to-back RBI singles in the first inning, giving New Haven a 2-0 lead after one. Truemann's knock brought home Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and the catcher would wind up scoring on Ricci's hit.

Franklin Pierce tied the game in the third inning with a pair of runs before going ahead 3-2 in the fourth. It added two more runs in the fifth, making it 5-2 and ending the day of Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka).

Things got ugly in the seventh as the Ravens crossed the plate nine times, taking advantage of bad defense from the Chargers.

Kinney's day lasted 4.2 innings as the sophomore surrendered seven hits, five runs (three earned), and walked one while striking out three.

GAME TWO:
In the season finale, the Chargers once again got on the board first, this time via an RBI double from Ricci. Once again, Ricci brought home Truemann.

A four-run top of the second inning for the Ravens, sparked by a two-run homer from freshman Taylor Ellis, was enough for them to defeat the Chargers in the second straight game.

A two-run single in the sixth inning made it 6-1 Franklin Pierce. Another in the seventh made it a 7-1 final.

Katie Rhodes (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) took the loss for the Chargers to end the season, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits across 1.2 innings.
