West Haven, Conn. – April 8, 2025 | The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out American International College 23-0 at Kathy Zolad Stadium. With the win, the Chargers improve to 7-0 in NE10 conference play.
A total of 16 different players found the back of the net for New Haven, showcasing the depth and versatility of the offense. Leading the charge was freshman attacker
Sophia Minnion (Wading River, N.Y., Shoreham-Wading River), who netted a game-high four goals.
The game also marked several career milestones and firsts.
Kendall Morrill (Plaistow, N.H., Timberlane Regional),
Kaleigh Schaeffler (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun),
Marissa Pinkham (Windsor, Conn., East Catholic),
Sophia Devaney (Jackson, N.J., Jackson Memorial), and
Kendall Murray (Bow, N.H., Bow) all scored their first collegiate goals, adding to the team's electric offensive effort.
The Chargers dominated possession, especially in the draw circle, winning 21 of 25 draws, and scooped up all 10 ground balls, holding AIC to none.
Defensively, the Blue and Gold stood tall for the shutout.
Madeline Sage (Manchester, N.H., Goffstown High School) recorded two saves,
Emily Clutter (Crofton, Md., Crofton) added three, and
Caroline D'Angelo (Danbury, Conn., Danbury) capped the effort with one save of her own to preserve the clean sheet.
A pair of Chargers also hit career milestones during the victory. Junior attacker
Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H., Pinkerton) tallied her 100th career point, while graduate defender
Karly King (Branford, Conn., Branford, Stonehill) collected her 100th career ground ball.
New Haven returns to action on Thursday, April 10, hitting the road for a marquee matchup against nationally ranked No. 8 Pace University. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m.
