STATEN ISLAND, NY. – New Haven Women's basketball headed to Staten Island on Saturday afternoon, where it fell short in a tough battle against Wagner College.
New Haven started out strong in the first half, leading 21-18. But in the second half, the Seahawks outscored the Chargers, coming out on top 50-45.
Merit Innocent (Delta State, Nigeria/Busche Academy) led the Chargers with a double-double, having 11 rebounds and 15 points. Innocent also had three steals and an assist.
Aniya McDonald-Perry (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) had 14 rebounds, eight points, two steals, and a block.
New Haven led in second chance points, 10-2, but Wagner outscored New Haven in bench points, fast break points, and points off turnovers.
New Haven is heading to Pennsylvania to face Mercyhurst University on Thursday, January 22
