CHICAGO, Ill. – New Haven Men's Basketball used a late 10-0 run to defeat the Chicago State Cougars on Monday night.
Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) (15) and
Najimi George (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) (15) combined for 30 of the team's 62 points in the win.
The Blue & Gold hung around all game while trailing for the majority of the 40 minutes. It found itself down 33-30 at the half and used a 32-23 second half to get the job done. Fitzpatrick, who played 37 minutes, made all eight free-throw attempts, with all eight coming in the final five minutes of the game.
Led by
Andre Pasha's (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) six rebounds, the Chargers won the rebounding battle handedly over Chicago State, 36-23. George and
Stefano Faloppa (Portogruaro, Italy/Holy Cross Prep) each finished with five boards in the win. On the defensive side, Pasha, George, and Faloppa all recorded a block. Fitzpatrick (two), George, Faloppa, and
Maison Adeleye (Arlington, Tx./Juan Seguin) all finished with steals. Adeleye also registered his first 10-point game since the season opener on Nov. 3 at UConn.
New Haven's 21-3 advantage in bench points played a big role in securing its second straight win. The Chargers shot a perfect 14-14 from the line and 41.7% (20-49) from the field.
The Blue & Gold return to action on Friday, Jan. 23, as it hosts the Mercyhurst University Lakers. Opening tip between the Chargers and Lakers is set for 1:00 p.m.
