BROOKLYN, N.Y. – New Haven Women's Basketball visited one of the NEC's top teams in LIU on Saturday. The Blue & Gold suffered a 78-74 overtime loss on Valentine's Day. The Chargers pushed one of the NEC's top-ranked teams past 40 minutes, but eventually the Sharks found a way to hold on and defend their home court.
Jasmine McKay's (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) 21 points off the bench led the Chargers in the scoring department.
Teaira Kelley (Monroe, Ga./Walnut Grove) and
Schuyler Coles (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) each finished with 13 points in the loss.
Addisen Sulikowski's (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) nine rebounds were a team-high for the Chargers. Kelley and
Aniya McDonald-Perry (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) each pulled down seven rebounds.
"We left it all on the court today against a very good team. We took care of the ball and were very good offensively.
Jasmine McKay (West Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) was huge off the bench. It hurt us not having Lindsay and Aniya play in overtime. I'm proud of the effort and energy on the road," Coach
Debbie Buff said following the game.
New Haven returns to the court on Thursday, Feb. 19, as it travels to Stonehill College for a 6:00 p.m. matchup. Coach Buff's program collected its first-ever win as a Division I team back on Jan. 2 against the Skyhawks.
