Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Seleny Picks up Four Points in New Haven's Sunday afternoon Matchup with Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. — New Haven women's lacrosse (1-2) was defeated by Presbyterian College (1-3) with a final score of 15-7 on Sunday at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Chargers' fourth-quarter surge, where they netted four goals, was insufficient to counter Presbyterian's robust offensive, which featured 11 unassisted goals.

The game began with New Haven winning the initial draw control through Helena Dunwoody (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich), who has scored at least three goals in two consecutive games. Presbyterian gained an early lead with Kaylie Rittmueller's goal at 10:49, assisted by Sydney Howard. Additional goals by Emily Currie and Alyssa Perez extended the advantage. The Chargers answered in the last seconds of the quarter when Sophia Minnion (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) scored, assisted by Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), who has recorded at least two assists in three straight games, closing the gap to 3-1.

Presbyterian widened their lead in the second quarter with a goal by Sydney Howard, assisted by Kate Dominick, at 12:33. The Chargers responded with a goal from Dunwoody, assisted by Castiglione, at 7:17. Despite New Haven's efforts, including several saves by Caroline D'Angelo (Danbury, Conn./Danbury), who achieved a season-high with three ground balls, Presbyterian scored again with Hannah Savage capitalizing on a free position attempt at 2:16. The quarter ended with Presbyterian leading 6-2.

In the third quarter, Presbyterian continued to extend their lead. Kate Dominick scored at 14:07, assisted by Rittmueller, followed by Alyssa Perez from a free position shot at 11:42. Dominick added another goal at 8:35, with another at 7:41 assisted by Emma Claire Mills. Emily Currie converted a free position shot at 4:54. Dunwoody scored New Haven's sole goal of the quarter at 2:58. Presbyterian ended the quarter ahead 12-3.

In the fourth quarter, Presbyterian furthered their lead with goals from Madeleine Lowrance at 13:51 and Rose Dennstaedt at 11:24. The Chargers responded with a goal from Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton), assisted by Dunwoody at 7:11, and continued their momentum with Minnion scoring at 5:44. Dunwoody added another goal at 2:04, followed by Seleny's unassisted goal at 1:30, narrowing the score to 14-7. In the final moments, Harper Johnson secured a last goal for Presbyterian at 00:10 with a free position shot, concluding the game 15-7 in favor of Presbyterian.
