Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

FDU Takes Win in Tightly-Contested NEC Matchup

TEANECK, N.J. — The New Haven women's lacrosse team (2-7, 1-3) fell to Fairleigh Dickinson University (7-5, 3-1) with a final score of 11-8 on Wednesday at University Stadium. The Chargers managed eight goals, scoring twice in both the third and fourth quarters. Fairleigh Dickinson set the game's tone early, outscoring the Chargers 5-1 in the first quarter.

Fairleigh Dickinson began the game by securing the initial draw control, challenging the Blue & Gold early. A green card on Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and an opening goal by Riley Eaton put New Haven behind. Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) responded with a goal at 7:50, closing the gap to 2-1. However, Fairleigh Dickinson extended their advantage with goals from Kendal Hippert and Mia Devino. Despite Seleny's strong draw control performance, turnovers hindered the Chargers, allowing Fairleigh Dickinson to finish the quarter ahead 5-1.

In the second quarter, New Haven's offense gained momentum. Helena Dunwoody (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) scored at 12:00, and Taryn Murphy (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) capitalized on a player-up opportunity at 9:04 with an assist from Seleny. Seleny later found the net again with an assist from Sophia Devaney (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) at 1:18, narrowing the lead. Fairleigh Dickinson managed a goal by Mia Layne at 8:20, but New Haven's efficient draw controls kept them competitive. The Chargers outscored Fairleigh Dickinson 3-1 in the second quarter, with Fairleigh Dickinson holding a 6-4 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw New Haven continue their push, with Dunwoody scoring at 10:29, assisted by Castiglione. Castiglione then reduced the deficit further with a successful free position shot at 6:37. Fairleigh Dickinson countered with two goals, maintaining their lead at 9-6 by quarter's end.

In the fourth quarter, New Haven's offense was highlighted by a goal from Sophia Minnion (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) at 11:56. A forced turnover by Karlie Maye (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) led to another Dunwoody goal at 7:20. Despite these efforts, Fairleigh Dickinson held their lead, with Eaton scoring a late goal at 0:58. The quarter concluded with both teams scoring two goals, resulting in an 11-8 victory for Fairleigh Dickinson.
