HAMDEN, Conn. — New Haven women's lacrosse (1-4) fell to Quinnipiac University (3-3) with a final score of 16-6 on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Chargers scored three goals in the third quarter, including one extra-player goal. Quinnipiac established an early advantage with five goals in the first quarter, securing the victory at home.
The match commenced with New Haven's
Ainsley Bourbeau (Willington, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Quinnipiac's Shannon Alden in goal. Quinnipiac gained momentum when Mia Delmond scored the opening goal at 14:08. Julia Givens extended the lead with goals at 13:01 and 9:21, assisted by Brie Provenzano. Despite several attempts from the Blue & Gold, including a saved shot by
Sophia Devaney (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) at 11:44, Quinnipiac maintained control. Emma Miller-Ayala added a goal at 1:20, assisted by Cate Bendowski, and Kendall Lee capped the quarter with a final goal at 0:03. Quinnipiac led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) opened the second quarter for New Haven with a goal at 9:12. Quinnipiac responded quickly with a goal from Mia Delmond at 8:21, assisted by Provenzano. In the third quarter, Quinnipiac extended its lead with a free position goal by Kendall Lee at 11:20 and a player-up goal by Kendall Bennett at 10:22. New Haven responded with a player-up goal from
Taryn Murphy (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), assisted by Seleny, at 7:06. Castiglione added a free position goal at 6:23, followed by a strike from
Helena Dunwoody (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) at 5:31, narrowing the gap to 10-4. Dunwoody continued her streak of scoring at least two goals in four consecutive games. Quinnipiac countered with goals from Delmond at 4:04 and Provenzano at 3:31, leading 12-4 by the end of the third quarter.
Provenzano opened the fourth quarter with a goal, assisted by Lee at 14:17. Bendowski followed with a free position goal, extending Quinnipiac's lead. Dunwoody responded with a goal from a free position shot at 8:53, narrowing the gap.
