NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven softball took four losses over the weekend, falling to Boston University and Yale University, twice each, in games held at DeWitt Family Stadium.
In their first matchup, New Haven suffered a 9-1 defeat against Boston University. The game began with
Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) reaching base on a walk, marking a season-high with two walks, although she was caught stealing.
Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area) and Jess Petit followed with consecutive singles, but the inning closed without any runs. Boston University responded with a three-run first inning, featuring a two-RBI triple from Megan Coyle and a sacrifice fly by Kylie Doherty. The score after the first inning was Boston University 3, New Haven 0.
New Haven managed its only run in the third inning when Trueman singled to right field, driving in
Allison Murai (Sammamish, WA/Skyline High School), who had previously walked. Trueman's RBI surpassed her season average of 0.2. Boston University countered with a sacrifice fly from Kieren McHugh, bringing the score to Boston University 4, Chargers 1 by the end of the third.
The fourth inning saw Boston University increase its lead with a solo home run by Brooke Deppiesse and an RBI single by Sophie Naivar, extending the lead to 6-1. In the fifth, they capitalized on an error to score two unearned runs, including an RBI triple by Deppiesse, pushing the score to 8-1. She struck out three batters, walked three, and threw a season-high 106 pitches. Offensively, Trueman led with a season-high two hits and one RBI. Petit added a hit in her two at-bats.

The following day, New Haven was defeated by Yale 13-3. Yale took an early lead in the first inning when Demi Donahoe scored on a single by Elena Ohe. New Haven's
Marzia Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford) reached second in the second inning, but the team couldn't score. Yale capitalized on errors, with Kaitlyn Oikle scoring an unearned run and Ohe's triple driving in three more, extending the lead to 6-0.
The third inning saw Yale increase its advantage to 8-0 after Ellie Joseph hit a two-run homer. In the fourth inning, Yale added five more runs, highlighted by Isabella Fortini's double that brought in three runs, pushing the score to 13-0. New Haven responded in the fifth inning, as
