WEST HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven softball dropped a home contest to Fairfield, 10-2, on Wednesday.
Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area) led New Haven offensively, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Fairfield started strong with a five-run first inning. Sarah Bielski scored after being hit by a pitch, and Lauren Osland's double to left field drove in two more runs, closing the inning with a 5-0 advantage.
The second inning saw Fairfield extend its lead with three additional runs, highlighted by Anna Paravati's RBI triple, pushing the score to 8-0.
New Haven broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Jess Petit advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another, cutting the deficit to 9-1.
In the fifth inning, New Haven added another run as
Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) singled and later scored on Petit's RBI single, bringing it to 9-2.
Fairfield secured the victory with a final run in the sixth inning, courtesy of Sammie Dougherty's bunt single, finalizing the score at 10-2.
Cecelia Imbimbo (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) pitched 1 inning for New Haven, allowing 5 earned runs on 3 hits, with 2 hit batters and 1 walk, resulting in a WHIP of 4.00.
Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) relieved, pitching 5 innings and conceding 5 earned runs on 8 hits, including 1 home run and 2 triples, while striking out 2 and walking 3, yielding a WHIP of 2.20. Griffin's stint included 11 flyouts and 2 groundouts.
Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) contributed one hit and a run scored from first base. Jess Petit added two hits and an RBI.
Emily Ricci (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) drew two walks, enhancing the Chargers' on-base presence.
Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) pitched 5 innings, striking out two batters.
