WEST HAVEN, Conn. — The New Haven women's soccer team (0-4-1) was defeated by Seton Hall (3-0-0) with a final score of 5-0 on Sunday at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Despite the loss, the Chargers' goalkeeper recorded 11 saves, facing 19 shots from Seton Hall.
The match began with New Haven's goalkeeper, Alexia-Mae Goodman, making an early save against Seton Hall's Macie Mietz. Despite her efforts, Seton Hall managed to break through in the ninth minute with a goal by Kileigh Gorman. New Haven's defense faced constant pressure, as Goodman recorded multiple saves.
Seton Hall capitalized on its offensive momentum, scoring again in the 16th and 24th minutes. Despite Goodman's multiple stops, Seton Hall extended its lead further with a goal from Gorman in the 28th minute. New Haven ended the first period trailing 4-0.
New Haven began the second half by maintaining offensive pressure with early shots from Molly Heras (Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Borough High School) and Elle Bradley (Castle Rock, Colo./Chaparral High School). However, Seton Hall capitalized on its opportunities, with Gianna Angelillo scoring in the 58th minute to extend the visitors' lead.
Despite the Blue & Gold's efforts to shift momentum through sustained attacks, including a series of corner kicks and a close attempt by Lola Wood (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan School), Seton Hall's defense held firm. Trinitie Maloney (Brick, N.J./Brick Township High School) contributed significantly with multiple saves, including three in the final 15 minutes. The period closed with Seton Hall leading 5-0.
Looking ahead, the Chargers will host Bryant University on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. The match will take place at Kathy Zolad Stadium in West Haven, Conn.
