BROOKINGS, S.D. — New Haven Football lost to South Dakota State 57-14 on Saturday at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

The Chargers answered South Dakota State's opening field goal by crossing midfield on their first possession, with Zaon Laney (Hoboken, N.J./Rahway) converting gains of 11 and 22 yards for first downs. The drive ended at the South Dakota State 34 when AJ Duffy's (St. Augustine, Fla./Rancho Verde) fourth-down pass fell incomplete, leaving New Haven scoreless in the first quarter. South Dakota State led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Chargers scored twice in the fourth quarter, first after Nicholas Souffrin (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) recovered a muffed punt at the South Dakota State 15 and Jake Tripptree (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) found Lasalle Rose Jr. for a 19-yard touchdown. The Chargers added an 80-yard drive later in the quarter, capped by Champagne's 49-yard touchdown run with 5:08 left. South Dakota State finished off a 57-14 result.
