University of New Haven Athletics

In an effort to address ongoing social justice initiatives, the University of New Haven Department of Athletics established the Chargers Alliance during the summer of 2020. The Chargers Alliance was created as an avenue for student-athletes to have constructive conversations on tough topics; including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, and privilege.

Through hosting a variety of events, the Chargers Alliance hopes to drive the conversations, education, and programming on issues of diversity, equity, and equality for all members of the Chargers Athletics Community.

MISSION
The members of this alliance are charged with having those difficult but constructive conversations to help our community to move forward with grace, empathy, and fortitude in the education and support of our student-athletes and staff on all topics related to diversity and inclusion including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, and privilege. In support of the University of New Haven mission, we want all Chargers to feel safe, included, and heard and upon leaving this campus prepared to make positive contributions to society from both their professional and personal perspectives.
VISION
We view sports as a space and place to have engaging conversations in a positive and productive way. To that end, the Chargers Alliance is to be utilized as a tool to drive the conversations, education, and programming on issues of diversity, equity, and equality for all members of our Chargers Athletics Community.
The Alliance Chat was created to address the Chargers Alliance’s mission and vision of driving the conversations and education of the entire Chargers Athletics Community on topics of diversity, inclusion and equity. During the academic year, chats on a variety of topics will be held with various members of the University community in an ongoing effort to engage in dialogue in a safe space as we continue to move forward as a Department and an institution that reflects a diverse, inclusive, and welcome environment. Recordings will be posted monthly throughout the academic year.
