Andy Sparano joins the New Haven staff as a running backs coach in 2013. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
At RPI, Sparano was coached the tight ends in 2011 and mentored Joe Cozzolino to an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention. He assumed the duties of offensive line coach and run game coordinator in 2012, guiding the Engineers to 4.5 yards per carry and 131 yards per game on the ground.

As a student-athlete, Sparano started on the offensive line for four years at the University at Albany, including two seasons alongside fellow Chargers’ assistant coach Jon Leible. Sparano started at center for the Great Danes as a true freshman under offensive line coach and offensive coordinator Peter Rossomando. He would start at both center and guard during his four-year career.

Sparano played scholastically at Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas. He was an All-District performer as both an offensive and defensive lineman for the Mustangs.

Sparano and his wife Stephanie were married in July of 2013. He is the son of University of New Haven Athletics Hall of Fame Head Coach and UNH alum Tony Sparano.
