Daryl Daleen

2013 is the fifth season for Daryl Daleen at the University of New Haven and his first as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach. Daleen previously served as special teams coordinator and defensive line coach on Coach Rossomando’s staff.

This past fall, Daleen’s front four included both Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year Raheem Stanley and Northeast-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year and All-America Honorable Mention Tom Herd. Stanley went on to sign an NFL contract with the Baltimore Ravens. As a unit, the UNH defense led the Northeast-10 in yards allowed, points allowed, passing yards allowed and sacks.

In the kicking game, Chris Scifo garnered First Team All-NE-10 laurels as a placekicker in 2012.

Defensive success has been a constant under Daleen, as the men in the trenches have now led the Chargers to the most sacks in the Northeast-10 in three consecutive campaigns.

Prior to joining the New Haven staff, Daleen was the defensive coordinator at Pikeville (Ky.) College in 2006-2007. Daleen’s unit was the fourth-ranked defense in the Mid-South Conference, forcing 39 turnovers and picking up 27 sacks.

Daleen also served as inside linebackers coach for Newberry (S.C.) College from 2004-2006. He helped mentor the top defense in the South Atlantic Conference as the Indians went 10-1 – their first winning season in 14 years – and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship Second Round. Daleen coached two All-SAC linebackers at Newberry, including an All-Southeast Region performer.

Before beginning his college coaching career, Daleen served as the head coach and defensive coordinator for the St. Charles County Cyclones – a minor league football team in St. Charles, Mo. In his final season, the Cyclones posted a 9-2 record en route to a division championship and first round playoff win.

Daleen graduated from Newberry College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
