Garrett McLaughlin

Garrett McLaughlin begins his first season with the Blue and Gold in 2016. He will work with the linebackers.

McLaughlin comes to New Haven after spending the last four seasons at Buffalo State where he was the defensive backs coach. In 2014, he coached Mitch Thomas to first team All-Empire 8 and second team All-ECAC North accolades. Overall, McLaughlin coached five All-Conference players, while helping lead the Bengals to their first ECAC Bowl game in 16 years in 2014. The Bengals made as second straight ECAC Bowl appearnce in 2015.  

In addition, McLaughlin has also worked with USA Football for the past year where he served as a defensive coordinator during the USA Football Development games over the summer. 

A graduate of Syracuse University, he spent time as a student assistant coach with the football program, working under head coach Doug Marrone. With the Orange, McLaughlin coached three players that went on to earn NFL experience, including Shamarko Thomas, who was drafted by the Pittsburg Steelers in the fourth round in 2013.

He also worked in equipment, operations and video at Syracuse and completed a strength and conditioning internship with Thurman Thomas Sports Training.

McLaughlin attended Orchard Park High School where he played on two Section VI title teams and was also a captain of the school’s wrestling team.
