Rachel Lawes begins her first season as a member of the Softball coaching staff at New Haven following a career at Kutztown University.
Lawes, a senior captain and 4-year player for the Golden Bears, was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, and was also a 2-time NFCA All America Scholar-Athlete and 4-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete. She was also a 3-time winner of the D2ADA Academic Achievement award.
Lawes appeared in 201 games throughout her career, wrapping up her time at KU batting .255 with 94 hits, 40 RBI, 71 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases. She stands at seventh all-time at Kutztown in career sacrifices with 33. Defensively, Lawes tallied 219 putouts, 122 assists, and recorded a .958 fielding percentage.
Off the field, Lawes was a 2-time member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where she served as the Communications Coordinator, and was also a representative for Kutztown at the Title IX Evaluation Board and NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.
Lawes graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Political Science and Public Relations.
A Reading, Pa. native, Lawes is currently pursuing her masters degree in National Security.
