Danielle Wexler

Danielle Wexler is in her fourth season as assistant coach for the University of New Haven women’s basketball team after joining head coach Jessica Smith’s Charger staff in July, 2006.

“Danielle has proven to be a fantastic addition to the New Haven staff. She is energetic, hard-working, and passionate about the game,” says head coach Jessica Smith. “Danielle works very hard with each player individually, from when they check in & out of the game, to film work, and even extra shooting on the side.”

Wexler was a standout for head coach Jennifer Rizzotti at the University of Hartford from 2002-06. She started all 31 games for the school’s record-breaking 2005-06 club, which went 27-4 and won an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in Hawks history. She averaged 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game for that 2005-06 NCAA Tournament team, which won the America East title and then scored a victory over Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tourney.

As a junior the previous season, Wexler set what was then a school record with 49 three-pointers and 153 attempts.

“Danielle will be responsible for the development of our posts,” said Smith. “She is a great teacher and understands how much to demand out of the team to get results. She began as a role player and worked to become a vital starter on a NCAA team. Danielle will also be responsible for conditioning, scouting, recruiting, and alumnae relations.”

A native of Newtown, Pa., Wexler earned her bachelor’s degree in pscyhology from the University of Hartford in 2006. As a student-athlete, Danielle worked numerous basketball camps and clinics and also gave instructional lessons. She currently resides in Branford, Conn.
