Gil Schaper joined the UNH staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2008 campaign. A native of nearby Guilford, Conn., Schaper was a standout player for Guilford High School and St. Lawrence University.
Schaper graduated from St. Lawrence with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies in May 2006. He has coaching experience with the Soccer Club of Guilford and holds a USSF Coaching License.
Schaper was a four-year player for St. Lawrence, helping the team to the Division III playoffs all four seasons. The team won three Liberty League championships, and Schaper was an All-Liberty selection following his senior campaign in 2005.
While at Guilford, under former UNH coach and UNH Athletics Hall of Famer Joe Maher, Schaper was a four-year standout that helped his team to the Class LL State Championship in 2000. He participated in the Senior Bowl in 2001, when he was also team MVP and an All-Hammonasset and All-Area selection.
