Hannah Fetters

Completing her fifth season with the Chargers in the Spring of 2022, Hannah (Still) Fetters has led the women’s tennis team to four straight Northeast-10 playoff appearances. Fetters, who was named the head women’s tennis coach prior to the 2017-18 season, came to New Haven following two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State University.

In her first two season, Fetters led the Chargers to their two most successful seasons in program history (some year-by-year results are unavailable), putting up the first double digit victory seasons in recorded history. In her inaugural season, Fetters led the Blue and Gold to 10 wins and surpassed that in her second season with a 12-11 overall record, including a 7-4 mark in the Northeast-10. Overall for her career, fetters has amassed a 45-44 overall record and a 26-26 record in conference play.

Through the completion of her fifth season, Fetters has coached 11 different players to All-Conference accolades, including NE10 Rookie of the Year accolades presented to Stephanie Gonzalez following the Fall 2017 campaign. In additions, she has also coached at least one NE10 All-Rookie selection in each of her five years at the helm of the Chargers.

In three of the last four seasons, Fetters has had one played earn Second Team All-Conference honors in in singles play, while following the fall 2018 campaign, Laura Fermosal and Gonzalez were tabbed with First team honors in doubles action.

This past season saw three players earn All-Conference honors with Ivana Andric and Gaayatri Shankar earning Second Team Doubles accolades and Karim Carreras earning a spot on the All-Rookie squad. Overall, Fetters led the Chargers to a 10-10 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the Northeast-10, earning the fourth-straight bid to the NE10 Championship earning the sixth seed. In addition, the Chargers posted their second ever win over a Division I opponent, defeating Holy Cross to cap off the spring campaign.

With a limited schedule due to the CoVID-19 pandemic, Fetters led the Chargers to a 5-8 record in 2021, earning the sixth seed in the NE10 Championship and a bye to the quarterfinal round before falling to eventual NCAA Tournament qualifier Stonehill. Also among the highlights for the Chargers was a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Division I Providence College from the Big East Conference.

Following the shortened season, four Chargers were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference with graduate transfer Ivana Andric earning Second Team All-Conference accolades at first singles. In addition, senior Lilia Rodriguez and sophomore Alexa Orlando also garnered All-Conference accolades, with the pair earning Third Team honors as a doubles pair. Rounding out the honors was freshman Abby Murphy who scored All-Rookie distinction.

The 2019-20 season was also cut short by the CoVID-19 pandemic, with the Chargers only able to compete in the fall of2019, closing out the campaign with an 8-6 record, advancing to the NE10 playoffs for the second-straight season. Highlighting the season was a pair of All-Conference honors for freshman Kacie Banks who closed out her rookie campaign with an 11-2 record in singles play earning Second Team All-Conference and All-Rookie honors.

In 2018-19, Fetters guided the Chargers to the most successful season in recorded program history, collecting a school-record 12 victories during a 12-11 season. The Chargers finished 7-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play, their most wins since joining the conference 11 seasons prior, and guided three players – Laura Fermosel (First Team No. 1 Doubles/Second Team No. 1 singles), Stephanie Gonzalez (First Team No. 1 Doubles) and Nicole Mika (All-Rookie Team) earn All-Northest-10 honors.

In her first season at New Haven, Fetters led the Chargers to a then-school-record 10 victories during a 10-9 overall campaign. In just her first season, Fetters recorded five times as many wins as the season prior, with the team recording the most victories in a single season in over 20 years with a 5-4 defeat of St. Thomas Aquinas on April 14, 2018. The highlight of the season for Fetters was mentoring then freshman Stephanie Gonzalez to the program’s first ever NE10 Rookie of the Year honors as she accumulated a 12-7 record at No. 1 singles and a 10-6 record at No. 1 doubles with partner, Lilia Rodriguez.

In just her second match of the year, Fetters earned her first collegiate win as a head coach with a 9-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus on September 9, 2017.

Fetters began her coaching career at Southwest Minnesota State, where she helped lead the Mustangs to double their win total in 2017, including a 9-0 sweep of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Minnesota Crookston. While at Southwest Minnesota State, she earned her master's degree in Physical Education, Coaching of Sport in May 2017. 

Prior to beginning her coaching career at SMSU, Fetters completed a four-year standout career at Huntingdon College (Ala.) where she was one of just two players in the program’s NCAA era to win at least 100 career matches. For her career, Fetters combined for a 116-46 record with a 62-19 mark in singles play and a 54-27 record in double action. During the Lady Hawks NCAA era, she is tied for first in the record book for doubles victories and is second in singles victories and total victories.

Fetters was a four-time All-Conference selection, twice each in the Great South Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference and was a part of two conference runner-up teams in the GSAC. She also competed in cross country as a freshman and served as the Vice President for the Hawks Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Fetters graduated from Huntingdon in May 2015 with her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.

A native of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Fetters resides in Wallingford, Conn. with her husband Cory and their newborn son.
