A four-year standout on the Chargers’ women’s volleyball team, Alex Bussey returns to her alma mater to once again roam the sidelines as an assistant coach. Bussey previously spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons as an assistant coach with the Chargers.
In her two previous seasons as an assistant coach, Bussey helped lead the Chargers to a 42-17 overall record and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA East Region Championship, including hosting the regional event in 2018. In addition, the Chargers posted a 13-1 record in the Northeast-10 during her first season on the sidelines, securing the programs second-straight, and ninth overall, regular season league title.
A middle blocker for the Chargers, Bussey appeared in 108 matches and 382 sets during her career. She compiled 658 total kills (1.71 k/s) and finished with 74 solo blocks, 235 block assists, and 309 total blocks, an average of 0.81 blocks per set. During her tenure, the Chargers captured two Northeast-10 Championships, two NCAA Division II East Region Championships, and appeared in the NCAA Division II National Championship twice.
In 2017, Bussey led her team to the Division II Final Eight, after she was named to the NCAA Division II East Region All-Championship Team and Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team. That same season, she led the Chargers with 85 total blocks while finishing fourth with 225 kills. In 2016, she added AVCA All-East Region honors, and was named to the NE10 All-Conference third team and NE10 Conference All-Tournament Team.
Bussey was also a standout in the classroom as a Criminal Justice and Psychology double major, as she was twice named Academic All-Conference, was a six-time Dean’s List recipient, and was named to the NE10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in all eight of her academic semesters. Bussey was also an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for two years and was a member of the Black Student Union for two years. Currently, Bussey is pursuing her master's in national security.
