Ashley Mariani begins her coaching as a graduate assistant with New Haven in 2019 while pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the University. Mariani comes to New Haven after spending two years playing internationally as a middle blocker for VfB Sugl LOTTO Thuringen in Germany.

Mariani split her collegiate career across the University of Tennessee and the University of Iowa, graduating from the Hawkeyes volleyball program in May of 2017 with a degree in health and human physiology.

As a freshman and sophomore at Tennessee, the Arlington, Texas native rotated between outside hitter, right side and middle blocker, appearing in all 64 matches for the Volunteers, including starting all 32 as a rookie in 2013. In her first collegiate season, Mariano led the Volunteers with 292 kills while adding 121 digs and 44 blocks. She followed that up in 2014 leading the team in kills in six matches, including a career-high 18 kills twice against Missouri and South Carolina. She closed out the season with 168 kills and 11 service aces. 

After transferring to Iowa City, Iowa, Mariani started all 33 matches with the Hawkeyes in 215, registering 221 kills while leading the team with 32 service aces. In her senior campaign, she was one of five players to appear in all 110 sets, again racking up 221 kills, adding 71 blocks. Following her senior season, she was presented with the Big 10 Sportsmanship Award while also earning the team’s Most Valuable Player accolades.

Overall for her career, she finished with 902 kills, 262 digs and 203 blocks. Following her graduation from Iowa, Mariani signed to play internationally in Germany where she spent two years before returning to the United States to begin her coaching career.
