With over 25 years of collegiate coaching and administrative experience to her credit, New Haven alumna Robin Salters has been a member of New Haven’s athletic administration since June 1994. She was promoted to her current role of Deputy Director of Athletics in January 2018 and has served as the department’s Senior Woman Administrator since 1994. Throughout her tenure, she has been responsible for duties such as department budget preparation and oversight, sport supervision, oversight of facility repair and improvement projects, and Director of Compliance among other roles.
The winningest volleyball coach in New Haven history, Salters led the Charger women’s volleyball program to national prominence over her 25 seasons as head coach, compiling a career record of 661-200 (.768) from 1994-2018. She piloted her teams to 23 NCAA Division II Tournament berths, 16 conference tournament championships, 12 appearances in the DII Sweet 16 and 10 trips to the NCAA DII Elite 8. Salters was a seven-time American Volleyball Coaches Association East Region Coach of the Year and a five-time conference coach of the year honoree.
Salters has also volunteered much of her time to serving on various regional and national committees for the NCAA and the AVCA, including an eight-year stint as the NCAA Regional Committee Chair, and serving as the 2009 NCAA Women’s Volleyball National Committee Chair. At New Haven, she has served on numerous committees including the IDEA Council and Gender Equity Review Committee.
A 1991 graduate of the University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in psychology, Salters was a setter for the Chargers women’s volleyball team from 1989-1991. She earned her master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 2000 in sociology with an emphasis in the sociology of sport.
