Tyrell Mims enters his first season with New Haven Football in 2026.

At New Haven, Mims serves as the cornerbacks coach, where he emphasizes ball skills, footwork, leverage, technique and coverage identification. He also assists with game-plan installation, coordinates coverage responsibilities and implements weekly adjustments in coordination with the defensive coaching staff.

Prior to joining New Haven, Mims spent two seasons at Columbia University as the special teams quality control coach and an assistant defensive backs coach. In that role, he combined analytics, creativity and football knowledge to develop strategies designed to give the Lions an advantage on game day.

Mims spent his playing career at Villanova University from 2020-24, where he served as a team captain and was recognized three times on the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and twice on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Mims holds a B.A. in Communications from Villanova and a graduate certificate in Public Administration.
