This Week's Matchup
New Haven (5-4, 4-4 NE-10) hosts Ohio Dominican (6-2 NAIA Independent) this week in its final game of the 2009 season. The Chargers come into this week as winners two straight as they look to finish their first season since 2003 with a winning record. The Panthers, of the NAIA, have won five straight, including a 21-12 victory over rival Urbana University last Saturday. Transitioning into NCAA Division II and an eventual member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Ohio Dominican ranks no. 20 in the most recent NAIA Football Coaches' Poll. This week, the UNH single back offense will be facing a 3-4 Ohio Dominican defense which is giving up 377.0 yards per game. The Charger offense enjoyed an impressive 538-yard performance last week, which includes having their first 100-yard rusher of the season. The Panthers' single back offense is averaging 445.5 yards per game this season, including 281.8 passing yards per game. The past two weeks the Chargers have used both a 4-3 and a 3-4 to more effectively stop the St. Anselm and Pace offenses, look for more of the same this week.
Common Opponents
The Chargers and Panthers have one common opponent, Bentley University. Both teams lost to the Falcons much earlier in the season. In their opening game of the 2009 season, the Panthers fell 14-13 to Bentley in Columbus, Ohio. Bentley used two second-half touchdowns to take the opening week victory. In week three, the Chargers fell 23-18 to the NE-10 leading and nationally ranked No. 24 Falcons. New Haven trailed 23-10 in the fourth quarter before forcing a safety and scoring a late touchdown to cut into the Bentley lead. Both teams finished with over 300 yards of total offense against the Falcons, while each teams' defense also gave up over 300 yards of total offense.
