Charger Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Match to St. Rose

(09-16-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 2-1 Wednesday afternoon to the College of St. Rose Golden Knights at Kayo Field. The Chargers fall to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Golden Knights improve to 2-4, overall 1-2 in conference play.

The Golden Knights opened scoring at a rain soaked Kayo Field Wednesday afternoon. St. Rose scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute of the game. New Haven then evened the scored off an Anthony Romano goal in the 17th minute. It was the first of the season for Romano, who received the ball from Oren Corridon.

The game-winner came just five minutes after half time, when the Golden Knights netted a header off a corner kick.

The Chargers registered two more shots in the second half which both went high and over the goal.

UNH trailed 12-8 in shots, including a 5-3 disadvantage in shots on goal. Jean Carlos Rafael attempted four of the Chargers eight shots, while Steven Gennuso and Romano each tallied two.

The Chargers play Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, September 19. Game time in Rindge, N.H. is set for 1 p.m.
