WOODBRIDGE, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team defeated American International College 9-0 Saturday afternoon at Amity High School. With the win the Chargers improve to 3-6 this season, including a 2-5 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The Chargers swept all nine points on Saturday, including big wins in no. 1 singles and no. 1 doubles. Lauren Lyons (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) defeated Amanda McLean 6-0, 6-0. Lyons then teamed with Noelle Polhemus (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) to earn an 8-1 victory in no. 1 doubles. Polhemus also won her no. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-0.

Leah Smith (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) and Chelsea Annese (Topsham, Maine/Mount Ararat) won their no. 2 doubles match 8-0 and also tallied wins in no. 3 and no. 4 singles, respectively. Gabby Fuentes (Arlington, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes) and Christina Oiler (Tabernacle, N.J./Senecca) earned points in no. 5 and no. 6 singles, while Sarah Williamson (Easton, Mass./Freedom) and Amanda Foley (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) earned a victory in no. 3 doubles.

The Chargers return to action on Thursday, April 8 when they travel to Assumption College for a 3:30 p.m. match in Worcester, Mass.
