COLCHESTER, Vt. - The University of New Haven women's volleyball team defeated Saint Michael's College 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15), Friday night at the Ross Sports Center. With the win, New Haven improved to 15-4 overall and 9-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Purple Knights fell to 14-12 overall and 3-6 in the league.
The Chargers won each set with ease. In the first set, New Haven rallied off seven straight points to go ahead 12-4.
Chelsey Alpough (Torrance, Calif./South / Western New Mexico Univ. ) later put the game away on a service ace.
Sets two and three were similar stories as the Chargers took commanding leads early and never looked back.
Keidy Candelaria (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Bayamon Military Academy) tallied a game-high 12 kills on 23 total attacks wthout commiting an error to record a .522 hitting percentage.
Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) and
Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) recorded eight kills each and
Amber Cannady (Yonkers, N.Y./Charles E. Gorton) added another six.
Alpough played just one set and dished out 11 assists.
Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) had a game-high 27 assists and
Heather Ladao (West Covina, Calif./Rowland ) led the team defensively with 16 digs.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Saint Anselm College. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
