Bentley Over Powers Women's Tennis, 9-0

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match, 9-0, to Bentley University Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers fell to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the NE-10, while the Falcons officially opened their season with the win.

Despite the loss, the Chargers improved with a close match in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and in No. 5 singles. Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) teamed with Melanie Johnson (Newton, N.J./Pope John XXIII) in No. 1 doubles and played close at 8-4. Nan Sirihorachai (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) and Jessica MacPhee also played close in No. 2 doubles at 8-5.

New Haven's top performer in singles was Martha Petzoldt (Westfield, Vt./North Country Union) in No. 5 singles. The freshman won the first set 6-4, but fell 6-0 in the second set and 10-2 in the tie-break.

New Haven concludes its 2011 portion of the schedule on Saturday, October 8 when it travels to Southern New Hampshire University. Match time on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
