WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women’s tennis team collected its first win of the 2011 Spring Season with a 9-0 sweep of American International on Saturday afternoon at Amity High School. The Chargers improved to 3-9 overall and 2-8 in Northeast-10 Conference action, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2 on the season.
Gabby Fuentes and Christina Oiler both recorded two points for the Chargers as they powered to their first win of the spring. Fuentes won her match 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and went on to team with Oiler in double for an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 spot. Oiler also earned a point in No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.
Lauren Lyons and Amanda Foley also earned victories in No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Nan Sirihorachai and Daniela Roman earned a point in No. 2 doubles as well.
UNH also earned three points off forfeits as AIC did not have enough to complete the six singles and three doubles matches.
The Chargers return to action, tomorrow March 27 with an away match at Stonehill College. First serve is set for 11 a.m. in Easton, Mass.
