BOX SCORE ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose Golden Knights scored off a header that found the back of the net in the 41st minute and the University of New Haven men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in Albany.
The Chargers drop to 4-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the loss. The Golden Knights grabbed their first win of the season and improved to 1-10-0 overall and 1-7-0 in conference play with the win.
Martin Schlegel's head found a ball off the foot of Dylan Klippenstein and the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. The Chargers struggled on offense in the first half, held to just two shots and no shots on goal.
New Haven mounted an offensive attack in the second half, with two shots on goal in the first seven minutes from
Clancy Purcell (Shelton, Conn./Taft / University of Connecticut). Saint Rose attempted six shots in the second half, but a majority sailed high or wide of the Chargers' net.
Purcell fired two more shots on goal, including one from 15-yards out in the 88th minute. Purcell's shot was nearly a goal, but Saint Rose's Todd Lawson made a diving save to his left to seal the clean sheet.
New Haven's
Anastasios Petridis (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon ) tallied four saves.
The Chargers return to action in another Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Colchester, Vt. against Saint Michael's College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
