Women's Tennis Edges Ravens in Tiebreaker, 5-4

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team defeated Franklin Pierce University 5-4 Sunday afternoon at Amity High School. The Chargers improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win, while the Ravens dropped to 0-4 overall and in conference play. The tiebreak match was in No. 3 singles where Martha Petzoldt (Westfield, Vt./North Country Union) defeated Melissa Cohen 6-3, 7-6 (6). The start in the best for the Chargers since joining the NE-10 in 2008.

Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) both won their singles matches and then teamed up for the sweep with a doubles win as well. Jess MacPhee (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) earned the Chargers' fourth point, while Petzoldt held out for the tiebreak victory.

New Haven returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when it hosts LIU Post for a non-conference match at Amity High School. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
