The University of New Haven men's soccer team plays the second of three-straight road matches with a Saturday trip to Stonehill. The Chargers enter the weekend with a record of 1-8-1 overall and a 1-5-0 Northeast-10 tally.
Â
Most recently, New Haven visited Le Moyne on Tuesday and came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision. Jason Smith (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) turned away six shots between the posts to maintain the one-goal deficit, but the Chargers could only muster one shot on target against a Dolphins' defense that was en route to its sixth shutout of the fall.
Â
The New Haven offense has been led by five points from Matt Dillon (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), who has tallied one goal and three assists thus far in his rookie campaign. Fellow freshman Alain Laurent (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) is the lone Charger with multiple markers after netting a pair of goals in the 6-3 win at Saint Anselm on Sept. 28.
Â
Stonehill will bring a five-match losing streak into Saturday's contest, most recently dropping a 4-0 decision at Franklin Pierce to fall to 3-7-0 on the season with a 2-5-0 Northeast-10 mark. During the conference slate, both the Chargers and Skyhawks have defeated Saint Anselm with losses to Saint Rose and Southern New Hampshire.
Â
Drew Montano leads Stonehill with two goals and four total points this fall. In total, the Skyhawks have found the back of the net seven times while ceding 19 markers. Adam Colella has appeared in net for all but 90 minutes of action, posting a 1.71 goals-against average with one shutout.
Â
Last season – on Sept. 11, 2012 – Joseph D'Antonio '13 scored the lone goal of the match in the 106th minute to lead the Chargers to a "golden goal" victory over the visiting Skyhawks.
Â
The Chargers' current three-match swing away from Kayo Field concludes on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a trip to Adelphi. Action returns to West Haven on Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. visit from Merrimack as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
