Late Goals Sink Chargers at Stonehill

BOX SCORE

EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead on Saturday at Stonehill, but the host Skyhawks netted two goals in the contest's final 13 minutes to escape with a 2-1 decision. Oscar Johannesson (Hässleholm, Sweden/Hässleholms Tekniska Skola) registered the Chargers' goal, assisted by Bobby Cruz (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach).

With the defeat, the Chargers fall to 1-9-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the NE-10, while Stonehill improves to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Johannesson's goal – the first of his collegiate career – came in the 13th minutes. The freshman took a feed from Cruz and blasted a one-timer from the right side of the box that eluded Stonehill goalkeeper Adam Colella.

The Chargers held their 1-0 cushion into the 79th minute, when Zane Stanton headed home the equalizer. Just over three minutes later, Alec Borowsky buried an 82nd-minute marker than would stand as the game-winner in a 2-1 Skyhawks' triumph.

James Pyatsky recorded three saves for New Haven; Johanneson's goal was the only shot on target faced by Colella. The Chargers were outshot 16-6 in the contest despite a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Chargers' current three-match swing away from Kayo Field concludes on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with a trip to Adelphi. Action returns to West Haven on Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. visit from Merrimack as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
