RESULTS
LATHAM, N.Y. - For the second time this season, the University of New Haven women's tennis team earned a perfect 9-0 victory, this time defeating The College of Saint Rose at the Tri-City Fitness Center. New Haven improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Golden Knights dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Six studnet-athletes won their singles and doubles matches. In No. 1 singles,
Eva Rybka (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) won 6-2, 6-1, while
Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) won by the same margin in No. 2 singles. The two teamed for an 8-3 victory in No. 1 doubles over Paige Southwick and Gabriella Pizzanelli.
Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) and
Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) won in straight sets in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. In No. 2 doubles, Sharshakov and Nigri defeated Alyssa Haddad and Megan Stacklum 8-1, completing their perfect afternoon.
Freshamn
Sarah Burzin (Ivoryton, Conn./Valley Regional) competed in No. 5 singles and defeated Ashley Cunningham 8-2, while
Christina Santos (Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) competed the singles sweep with another 8-2 victory over Haddad. Burzin and Santos paired for an 8-1 victory in No. 3 doubles.
Sharshakov and Nigri improved to 4-1 in both singles and doubles action this fall with Sunday's results. Conley also improved to 4-1 in doubles action, while Santos holds a perfect 2-0 record in No. 6 singles.
New Haven returns to action in its final home match of the fall season on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when Bentley travels to Woodbridge. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Amity High School. UNH concludes its 2013 fall schedule on Friday, Oct. 11 in a non-conference meeting at Molloy in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
