Bentley Battles Past Women's Tennis, 6-3

RESULTS

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to Bentley University Wednesday afternoon at Amity High School.

The Chargers dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the loss. The Falcons improved to 3-0 overall and in conference action.

Tightly contested throughout the entire match, New Haven held a 2-1 advantage after doubles. Eva Rybka (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) and Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) defeated Ludmila Yamus and Rachel Petrini in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) also defeated their opponents, Catherine Gianino and Brittani Hetyei, 8-5 in No. 2 doubles. 

The Falcons rebounded in singles, taking five of the six matchups for a three match victory. Sharshakov won the Chargers' only singles match at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rachel Petrini. The Chargers came close to earning a fourth victory in No. 1 singles as Rybka and Yamus went to a tie break in the third set. The Berlin, Conn. native won her opening set 6-2, while Yamus rebounded with her own 6-2 victory in the second set. The two played to a 6-6 tie in the final set before Yamus won the tie break and sealed Bentley's sixth win in the match.

Sharshakov improved to a team-best 5-1 in singles competition with her win, while her and Nigri stand at 4-1 on the season in doubles. Rybka and Conley also improved to 4-1 in doubles with their victory.

New Haven, in the midst of one of the best starts in program history, concluded its NE-10 fall schedule on Wednesday. The Chargers will conclude its non-conference fall schedule on Friday, Oct. 11 at Molloy College. The match will start at 3 p.m. at the Rockville Racquet Club.
