Women's Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale at Adelphi, 7-2

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team wrapped up its 2012-13 regular season on Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 loss at Adelphi University. The regular season ends for the Chargers, but for the first time in program history the team will advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament.

New Haven finished the regular season with a 7-6 overall record and a 7-5 record in the Northeast-10 Conference. Adelphi improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in NE-10 play.

New Haven was led by freshman Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) in No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles. The rookie earned a straight-sets victory in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Adelphi's Joanna Haich. She teamed with Jess MacPhee (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) in doubles for a 9-7 win.

The Chargers now wait for the completion of the remaining Northeast-10 Conference regular season matches to complete the postseason picture. UNH is are locked in the sixth and final seed in the tournament, and will travel to the No. 3 seed for the NE-10 quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 16. The complete tournament seedings and schedule will be anounced on Sunday, April 14 by the NE-10 office following the completion of the regular season.
