WOODBRIDGE, Conn. -
Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ),
Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) and
Angelica Pecci (Watertown, Conn./Holy Cross) all earned two points for the University of New Haven women's tennis team in a 6-3 victory over Assumption College Saturday afternoon at Amity High School.
New Haven improved to 6-5 overall and 6-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Greyhounds dropped to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in confernce play.
In No. 1 doubles, Conley and Sharshakov won their first match of the afternoon in impressive fashion, 8-1. Conley then earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Erica Micciche in No. 1 singles. Sharshakov then played and won her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 to complete three of the Chargers' victories.
Pecci teams with
Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) in No. 2 doubles for an 8-6 victory. Pecci added a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles. Finally, in No. 3 doubles
Jess MacPhee (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and
Martha Petzoldt (Westfield, Vt./North Country Union) earned an 8-1 win.
The Chargers' win total is the most since joining the Northeast-10 Conference prior to the 2008-09 season and now the team stands one win away from tying its seven wins from the 2007-08 season.
New Haven returns to action on Sunday at Saint Anselm College. Game time in Manchester, N.H. is set for 1 p.m. The regular season finale for UNH will take place at Adelphi University on Thursday, April 11.
