Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 Victory at Saint Anselm to Clinch Spot in NE-10 Championship

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team won its fourth straight and seventh match of the season on Sunday with a 7-2 victory at Saint Anselm College. The Chargers swept all three doubles matches and took four of the singles matches in the win, which clinched the Chargers a spot in their first ever NE-10 tournament.

The Chargers improved to 7-5 overall and 7-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Hawks dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Alecandra Sharshakov, Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and Angelica Pecci (Watertown, Conn./Holy Cross) all earned victories in both singles and doubles for the Chargers. Sharshakov won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles, while partnering with Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) in No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 win. Nigri won her No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Pecci won in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1. The two teamed in No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win.

Nan Sirihorachai (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) won her No. 5 singles match 2-6, 7-6, 10-4. Jess MacPhee (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and Martha Petzoldt (Westfield, Vt./North Country Union) won their No. 3 doubles match 8-0.

New Haven, currently standing sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference standings, clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament with the win.

The Chargers will conclude the regular season at Adelphi University on Thursday, April 11. The NE-10 tournament will start on Tuesday, April 16 against a team to be determined.
