No. 12/19 New Haven (0-0, 0-0 NE-10) officially opens the 2013 season at West Chester (0-0, 0-0 PSAC) Saturday in a pivotal non-conference battle. Both teams open the 2013 season in hopes of making a run for the NCAA Division II playoffs - over 10 weeks away from Saturday. Coming off an undefeated regular season and a 10-1 slate last season, the Chargers will face a tough opponent in perenial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Chester. The Golden Rams posted a 7-4 overall record and 4-3 PSAC East record a year ago. The Chargers, ranked No. 12 in the AFCA Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll and No. 19 in the D2Football.com Preseason Poll, were picked to finish season in the NE-10 preseason coaches' poll. West Chester, who received votes in the AFCA Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll, was picked to finish third in its division by the coaches of the PSAC. UNH and West Chester have a storied history, playing nearly every season dating back to 1990. The Chargers, who won the most recent meeting at DellaCamera Stadium 35-32 in overtime, hold a narrow 8-4-1 all-time record against the Golden Rams.

New Haven and West Chester opened the 2011 season at DellaCamera Stadium in another early season non-conference battle. West Chester jumped out to a 12-7 halftime lead and again led 19-14 at the end of the fourth quarter, but UNH rallied with 15 fourth-quarter points and tied the game at 29-29 with just over a minute left in regulation. After West Chester scored a field goal on its opening drive of overtime, UNH's Josh Smart caught a 13-yard pass from Ryan Osiecki and found the endzone to take in the game-winning score. Mike DeCaro ran for 30 yards, while Osiecki threw for 194 yards and three scores in the win for the Chargers.
