WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate) scored the only goal of the afternoon as the University of New Haven women's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over Adelphi on Wednesday on Kayo Field.
Natasha Purchla (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) made seven saves to preserve the clean sheet in the Northeast-10 home win.

With the victory, the Chargers improve to 5-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the NE-10. Adelphi, which was ranked as high as No. 9 in all of Division II this season, falls to 7-4-1 with a 4-4-1 conference mark.

Stein's goal, which came in the 19th minute, was her third of the fall. The tally was assisted by the tandem of
Kelly Blank (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor / Farmingdale State College) and
Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport). Blank's helper was her second, while Simms registered her third of the season improve her team-best point total to 13.

Purchla made seven saves en route to her second shutout – the Chargers' third – of the year. She made three stops in the first half and four in the second as Adelphi scrambled for the equalizer.

Adelphi's Sam Whitney made two saves in net.

The Chargers will remain home this weekend to host Saint Michael's on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. The Blue and Gold will play three of their final four matches on Kayo Field as they push for a spot in the NE-10 Championship for the third consecutive season.
