Marra Nets Golden Goal in 2-1 Win over Saint Michael's

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team topped Saint Michael's College, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday afternoon on Kayo Field. Both New Haven goals came courtesy of senior co-captain Courtney Marra (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate).

With the win, t
he Chargers improve to 6-7-1 with a 5-5-1 Northeast-10 record. New Haven has won back-to-back matches for the first time this fall and stands at 3-1-1 over its last five contests. The Purple Knights drop to 4-8-2 on the season and 3-6-2 in conference action.

Marra, who now has three markers this fall, scored the equalizer in the 84th minute and notched the game-winner in the 98th. Natasha Purchla (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) recorded 10 saves to facilitate the comeback and victory for the Chargers.

The first goal of the match came off the foot of Gabrielle Kondracki to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute.

Marra broke through to knot the match at 1-1 in the 84th, as she took a pass from Kelly Blank (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor / Farmingdale State College) and fired it just under the crossbar from 25 yards out to save the game with just over six minutes left.

The deadlock held into extra time, when Marra dribbled up the right side of the box and snuck a shot past an attacking Saint Michael's goalkeeper Aubrey Ouellet. The ball trickled into the net to give the Blue and Gold a 2-1 victory.

Up next for New Haven is a trip to Pace University for a Northeast-10 matchup on Oct. 21 before returning to Kayo Field on Oct. 29 for conference play against nationally-ranked Saint Rose at 4 p.m.
