WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's volleyball team improved its winning streak to 14 matches with a five-set victory over visiting Saint Rose on Wednesday evening at Charger Gymnasium.
Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and
Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) each had 17 kills in the Northeast-10 Conference home win.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in NE-10 play. The victory also marked the 576th win in the career of Head Coach Robin Salters '91 to tie Deborah Chin as the program's all-time leader.

Saint Rose drops to 13-5 on the year with a 5-2 conference mark. The Chargers swept a non-conference meeting between the two squads on Sept. 20 in Springfield as a part of the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational.

New Haven won tonight's match by set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 25-27 and 15-8.

Lee and Meteyer both recorded double-doubles as a part of their 17-kill evenings with 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) also registered a double-double with 45 assists and 16 digs.

The New Haven offense hit at a collective .250 rate, led by a .333 mark from
Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower), who had seven kills (7-1-18).
Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) had 10 kills, and fellow middle hitter
Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central) added three. Rounding out the Chargers' attack, Ane had two kills from the setter spot, and
Hayley Wilson (Denver, Colo./Overland) landed one.

Defensively,
Kea-Marie Olaso (Kailua, Hawai'i/Le Jardin Academy) had 21 digs for the Blue and Gold, and
Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) added 15 from the back row. At the net, Atufunwa had a hand in four of the Chargers' six team blocks.

The New Haven defensive effort held Saint Rose to a .146 hitting percentage, including a negative showing (-.034) in the fifth frame. Maryellen Devic led all players with 22 kills for the Golden Knights, and Carissa Dube added 12. Tori Daniels and Erica Ziskin each distributed 28 assists, and Kay Daniels had a match-leading 35 digs.

After splitting the first four sets, the Chargers raced out to a 7-1 advantage in the fifth frame. Saint Rose would climb back to within three points at 11-8, but New Haven polished off the match with a solo block from Meteyer and then a send-back from Meteyer and Peterson to finish the mid-week marathon at 15-8.

The Chargers return to action at Charger Gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a 1 p.m. visit from Bentley. The Falcons, who will host American International tomorrow night, are 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 after most recently defeating Southern New Hampshire, 3-1, for their fourth consecutive win.
