NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A 40th-minute goal for Markus Jacobsen was the only scoring as the University of New Haven men's soccer team was edged, 1-0, by No. 7 nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut State on a cold, rainy evening at Jess Dow Field.
Â
After the Northeast-10 Conference road loss, the Chargers fall to 2-12-0 on the season with a 1-9-0 conference mark. The Owls improve to 12-1-0 overall and 9-1-0 in NE-10 action.
Â
Jacobsen's goal came in the 40th minute off of a corner kick for SCSU, as he found the top-right corner off of a Brandyn Rowlinson redirect of a corner kick.
Â
Marc Scelsa (Islip, N.Y./Islip) made nine saves for the Chargers to maintain the 1-0 deficit, but New Haven was unable to crack goalkeeper Nick Varonier and the SCSU backline.
Â
Southern Connecticut State held a 21-2 advantage in shots and launched seven corner kicks compared to the Chargers' four attempts from the flag.
Â
New Haven returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. under the lights on Kayo Field against visiting Franklin Pierce as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
