Men's Basketball Returns to Winning Ways Against Bloomfield

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team shot 50 percent from the floor for the fifth time this season as the Chargers upended the Bloomfield Bears 81-66 on Friday night in a non-conference tilt at Charger Gymnasium.

With the victory, New Haven moves to 6-3 while Bloomfield drops to 3-6.

Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) led the Chargers, matching a season-high with 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) added 15 points and Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) recorded his first double-double of the season behind 13 points and 10 rebounds while hitting on all six of his field goal attempts.

New Haven took the lead right from the opening tip and maintained a slim advantage at 13-11 with 14:52 to go in the first half. From that point, the Chargers scored 21 of the next 30 points during a 10-minute span, capped by a 10-0 spurt in just under two minutes to take a 34-20 lead at the 4:32 mark of the frame. UNH carried the momentum of the run throughout the remainder of the half, leading 44—26 at the break.

In the second half, New Haven opened its largest lead of the night at 24 on pair of occasions on an Anderson layup at the 15:49 mark and again on a three-pointer by Mosley with 10:49 remaining.

In addition to the efforts of the three players who scored in double figures for the Chargers, a balanced effort saw seven players net six or more points as Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) dropped eight, Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Mass./New Mission) and Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) scored seven each and Jayson Cethoute (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) chipped in with six.

It is a short turnaround for the Chargers who will square off against Bentley in a non-conference matchup on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
