Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) matched a career-high with 29 points, but the University of New Haven men's basketball team was upended by the Bentley Falcons 74-63 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium.
With the result, New Haven drops to 6-4 while Bentley improves to 7-5.
In addition to his scoring output, Anderson led the Chargers with nine rebounds while adding two assists and two blocks.
Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) contributed 15 points and four assists for UNH.
Levy Gillespie (Meriden, Conn./Capital Preparatory Magnet) matched a personal best with four assists.
With New Haven on top 11-9 at the 14:44 mark of the first half, Bentley went on a 9-0 run, started by a three-pointer by Tyler McFarland, who ended with a season-high 31 points in the game, to take a 18-11 lead with 9:33 to go in the frame before taking a 36-26 lead into halftime.
Trailing by 11 at 43-32 just more than four minutes into the second half, the Chargers made their move. A triple by
Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) followed by a layup and a free throw by Anderson and a bucket by
Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) pulled New Haven to within three points at 43-40 in a matter of just 2:24. The Falcons regained their form, however and pulled away down the stretch.
New Haven is now off until December 31 when they will host Saint Anselm in a non-conference tilt at 3:30 p.m.
