Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Picks Up Fourth Straight Win

WEST HAVEN, Conn.Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) scored a career-high 28 points as the University of New Haven men's basketball team won their fourth straight game, defeating Post 70-63 Tuesday night at Charger Gymnasium.

With the win, the Chargers improved to 5-2 overall, while the Eagles drop to 3-5.

Eric Anderson helped the New Haven cause with a 15-point, 13-rebound effort, giving the senior his sixth straight double-double. Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) contributed with eight points and seven rebounds, while Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) added seven tallies and a career-best six rebounds.

After an old-fashioned three-point play by the Eagles opened scoring, New Haven went on an 11-0 run to open up an 11-3 lead slightly more than five minutes into the first half. From that point forward, the teams played evenly for the remainder of the frame as UNH took a 34-26 lead into the locker room. It was a torrid shooting half for the Chargers who hit on 52.2 percent of their shots from the floor.

In the second half, Post started to rally, embarking on a 12-4 run during the first eight minutes to cut the New Haven lead to 40-38. The Chargers quickly regained their composure as treys on back-to-back trips by Mosley along with a pair of free throws by Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) and a layup by Anderson pushed the UNH lead back to 10 points at 50-40 in a matter of just 2:05.

New Haven pushed the lead to as many as 13 at 54-41 with 4:58 remaining before the Eagles made one last push. On two different occasions, Post cut the lead to four points with under a minute remaining, but the Chargers hit seven free throws, six by Mosley, in the final minute of play to seal the win.

New Haven is off until Wednesday, Dec. 17 when the Chargers travel to Albany, N.Y. to battle Saint Rose at 7:30 p.m.
