WOODBRIGE, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team concluded its 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon at Amity High School with a 6-3 loss to Adelphi University.
The Chargers finish the season at 7-7 overall and 5-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Panthers improved to 10-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) and
Samantha Nigri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) started off the match in No. 2 doubles with an 8-2 victory. Sharshakov also won her No. 2 singles contest 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 to finish the season at 11-3 in singles. New Haven's third victory of the match came from
Angelica Pecci (Watertown, Conn./Holy Cross) in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) at No. 5 singles.
For the second consecutive season, New Haven finished at 7-7 overall, its highest wins total since 2007-08. At 5-7 in the NE-10, it also marked the second-best conference finish for the Chargers. With only one senior on the roster, nearly the entire roster returns in the fall.
