Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Torres Nets Two, Chargers Blank Felician, 4-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team earned its first victory of the fall on Saturday, taking a 4-0 result from visiting Felician. Andres Torres (Medellín, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University) scored two goals in the triumph.

With the win, the Chargers improve to 1-2-0. Felician now stands at 0-4-0.

All four New Haven goals came in the first half, beginning in the 12th minute as Bobby Cruz (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach) weaved through the defense and connected with Andres Torres (Medellín, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University), who found the far corner of the goal to stake the Blue and Gold to a 1-0 lead.

The senior struck again just over six minutes later, heading home a ball served into the box by Rob Poirier (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme).

Torres has now racked up three goals on the 2014 campaign. He netted five markers in 2012 – his first season with the Chargers – and added one in 2013. The helpers for Cruz and Poirier were the first career points for both student-athletes.

New Haven would double its lead as the first half came to a close, as two freshmen each found the back of the net for the first time in their collegiate careers. First, Louis Greenway Tambini (Nottingham, England/Trinity School) took a feed from Alain Laurent (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) in the 34th minute and buried it to run the score to 3-0.

Laurent also facilitated the goal that capped the scoring, which came in the 37th minute. The sophomore worked his way to the end line as crossed a ball for Frank Norosky (Groton, Conn./Fitch), who finished the job to extend the Chargers' advantage.

Laurent, who scored two goals in his freshman campaign, picked up the first two assists of his career this afternoon.

The Chargers' 4-0 cushion proved final as neither team scored in the second half of action.

Marc Scelsa (Islip, N.Y./Islip) turned away all three shots he faced to earn the win and clean sheet in his collegiate debut.  Anthony Tsouhnikas made three saves for the Golden Falcons.

The Chargers will now begin their Northeast-10 schedule with two matches away from Kayo Field. The Blue and Gold travel to Saint Rose on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and visit defending NCAA Champion Southern New Hampshire next Saturday, Sept. 20.

Action returns to West Haven on Tuesday, Sept. 23 for a non-conference clash with St. Thomas Aquinas.
