Chargers Power Past Assumption, 3-1

BOX SCORE WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's volleyball team continued Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday evening with a 3-1 victory at Assumption. Margo Meteyer (Madison, Wis./Madison West) had a team-leading 13 kills, while Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) hit .579 with 11 kills on 19 errorless swings.
 
With their seventh consecutive victory, the Chargers improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10. The Greyhounds drop to 3-6 on the season with a 1-1 conference mark. New Haven took the contest by set scores of 25-5, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-20.
 
Meteyer's 13 kills came on .407 hitting (13-2-7) as the Chargers hit at a collective .331 rate for the match. In addition to Lee's sparkling .579 hitting percentage, Kristy Atufunwa (Denver, Colo./Denver East) had 11 kills with a .435 average (11-1-23). Hayley Wilson (Denver, Colo./Overland) added seven kills for the Blue and Gold, and Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) notched five finishers off the bench.
 
Kaulana Ane (Paia, Hawai'i/Kamehameha) ran the offense and doled out 37 assists. The two-time reigning Northeast-10 Setter of the Year completed her fourth double-double of the fall with 14 digs.
 
Meteyer also notched her fourth double-double of 2014, picking up 12 digs to go along with her 13 kills. Libero Kea-Marie Olaso (Kailua, Hawai'i/Le Jardin Academy) matched Ane's team high of 14 digs, and Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) added eight from the back row. At the net, Atufunwa had a hand in four of New Haven's five team blocks.
 
In the serving game, Hacker landed two aces. Ane, Olaso and Devin Smith (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) each dropped in one winner for the Chargers.
 
Ann Donahue had a team-high 10 kills for the Greyhounds. Kiki Romanik distributed 30 assists with 15 digs, and Courtney Bagwell notched a match-best 18 digs. The Assumption attack hit a cumulative .104 in the contest.
 
New Haven returns to Charger Gymnasium this Saturday, Sept. 27, for a 1 p.m. meeting with perennial East Region power Dowling. The Chargers then resume NE-10 action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 30 against visiting American International.
